Always a producer to experiment with genres and styles outside of traditional house and techno, Andomat 3000 delivers another colourful release in the form of the well produced but oddly named 'Happy Crappyness' EP, marking a return to Highgrade Records.

Fortunately for us, the emphasis of the EP is on happiness rather than "crappyness", with a set of three solid original productions plus a digital bonus track in the form of Mihai Popoviciu's remix of 'Brique'. Opener 'Beatroot' is a slick and gently groovy track, which is possibly even too reserved in it's stylishness and could do with a bit more experimentation to give it that bit of extra kick. Third track 'Cheepnis' is a similarly chic and funky creation, but this time with the injection of fun that I'd been hankering after on 'Beatroot', and the song is a great throwback to the days of '70s disco.

'Brique' is a good rhythmic affair, with a sample of Indio-Eastern vocals adding a nice vibe, but for me the original is trumped by Popoviciu's remix, in my eyes the finest track of the EP. The Romanian adds a firmer sense of direction to the song, retaining and enhancing the rhythmic beat from the original as well as the vocal snippets, but adding stronger build ups and drops to make the track a whole lot more danceable.
