MOS - Profile | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Born February 17th 1981, Manuel Sofia (MOS) has always been in touch with music. Thanks to his mother, a renowned Argentinean classical pianist, and his brother Oliverio, one of the best known DJs in Buenos Aires, MOS was able to develop himself in what is his great passion, music. He began his career at the age of seventeen at the Odeon club, one of the Buenos Aires’ icons at the time. MOS learned slowly the art of turntables watching his brother, who seeing this great interest, slowly let him work the warm-up sessions. MOS quickly established himself in this position and later on became the resident DJ at the club when his brother decided to leave. At the same time MOS began to produce electronic music with the help of his Apple 7100. His first tracks were downtempo, drum and bass and techno cuts, lots of them released on local compilations. Slowly making a name for himself as a DJ and being one of the (if not THE) youngest producers of the Argentinean scene, MOS began several residences in the Buenos Aires underground which later opened the doors for him to DJ in clubs such as the famous Basement club, New York City, Living, Chocolate Mar del Plata, Mint and the first Creamfields festival in Buenos Aires. In the year 2002, MOS decided it was time for changes and moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he continues his career stronger than ever. At the same time Oliverio and MOS decide to create Hermanos de Sangre, a formation that quickly caught the attention of DJs such as Hernan Cattaneo, who did not doubt to pass on their CDR to Ben Turner, Pete Tong’s radio producer, who at the same time was working on the book/CD CREAM X 10. Having Turner heard the productions, he licensed one of the songs. The tracks “Memories” from Hermanos de Sangre shared the tracking list with artists such as Yousef, Justin Robertson and Seb Fontaine, besides tracks from labels such as Bedrock and Soma. At the same time, MOS was producing solo tracks and DJing at clubs such as Domestic, It, Over the Club and Dot in Barcelona. Slowly Hernan Cattaneo became one of the DJs that gave most support to MOS, ranking and playing almost every single track MOS delivered and this way MOS started to find his place in the music industry. 2004 is the year in which MOS made his final takeoff. He licensed tracks to labels such as Acute & Vapour and G Pal chose “Difficult Emotions” to be part of his own mixed CD that comes out on February 2005 through his own label Swift Recordings. MOS has also produced tracks with his great friend Leandro Pugliese a.k.a. Plastique Vision / Lega which will soon be released. Artists such as Satoshi Tomiie, G Pal, Joshua Collins, Hernan Cattaneo, Grag Benz, Shiloh, James Zabiela and James Holden play his tracks and praise him constantly. It was in 2004 where Pissed Off Recordings appears, label that MOS created and is today his number one project. Pissed Off’s mission is to create a space for the great Argentinean artists that have appeared in the last years and mix great international talents with these new South American promises. Artists such as G Pal, Hernan Cattaneo, Angel Molina & Nacho Marco, Oliverio, Hawaii and Subsky are part of this very promising line-up. The support of such great international artists will insure, without a doubt, that Pissed Off will be one of the labels to count on in 2005. It will be through Pissed Off that MOS releases his first 12”. The chosen track is “Elektrify” that will be released together with a remix from the Turkish star, Subsky. “Elektrify” has been ranked by Hernan Cattaneo and played by G Pal, Satoshi Tomiie, Greg Benz, Shiloh and James Zabiela among others. At the age of 23, MOS has given plenty to the world of electronic music and still has time to give plenty more. There is no doubt that MOS has an exquisite taste for his productions and a strength and technique that make his DJ sessions of very high quality.
