Scott McFadyen - Biography

  • Last updated: January 1st, 1970

Scott McFadyen's musical education began one day after finding an old Yamaha PortaSound in the garage. With that little synth, a borrowed four tracker and whatever else he could find, McFadyen managed to make a handful of recordings good enough to convince him that electronic music was the place to be. As it turned out, an old keyboard and a cobbled together drum kit can actually go quite away with a lot of enthusiasm.

This low-fi introduction to recording quickly lead to some upgraded sessions on a producer friend's Atari based Cubase setup and in studio Protools adventures whenever possible. However, it wasn't until after a move to Calgary , Alberta in the late nineties that the music thing really began to click.

Calgary, with its exploding underground dance scene, was an ideal training ground for any aspiring programmer and McFadyen took full advantage. Working days slinging vinyl at Feroshus, the record store owned by regional heavy weight DJ Cary Chang, and mixing beats at all of the hotest underground nights in town, McFadyen absorbed all he could.

The first synthesis of these varied genre influences saw life in the form of a project called com.munikation. Tracks from this project found their way on to a number of compilations and eventually a 12” release on NYC's Red Antenna. At present McFadyen is hungrily working on material for a new project and is eagerly awaiting the release of plates on Long Island's Court Square and Big Chief imprints, as well as, a solo disc on NYC's venerable Fade.
