Matthew Dekay - Profile | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dutch dj/producer Matthew Dekay started to hit the charts using a basic synth workstation with 2MB sample memory only. This fact clearly illustrates the immensity of musical awareness and consciousness that he owns… Pursuing personal interests, Matthew soon began working as an engineer and producer at ACE Records in Amsterdam. The experience of that time was to flourish in the future, as his newly gained skills caught the attention of such jocks like Danny Howells (“Passion”), Deep Dish (“Lowriders, pt.1”), Sander Kleinenberg (“Higher Thoughts”, “Symbiosis”), Pete Tong, John Digweed and Steve Lawler (keen on “Move Your Body”) later on. How did it come to this? Well, it couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for a Dutch production veteran, Erick E. He gave the opportunity for infinite Dekay’s growth in a perfect outlet of his private One Star label. But it wasn’t until 2000 that a more significant turn in Matthew’s career took place. The dawn of the new millennium brought him an undeniable possibility to develop and nurture his own unique sound which he has never then forsaken. With the buzz around his person, he concentrates on completing original productions while juggling an international DJ schedule and also performing as a resident of the legendary Stalker club in Harleem nowadays. Year 2003 is scheduled to be full of Matthew’s releases. Those include such brilliant cuts as: “If I could Fly”, “Eyes Wide Shut”, “Time to Think” (Dekay & Akatisha – the latter is: N. Soares & F. Geravis of the MdK band) and already established hits like “Higher Thoughts”, “Beautiful Monday” or “Fucking Friday”. We can also expect some eclectic works, like “Intergalactic”, written in collaboration with Beastie Boys plus some extra remixes of Madoka, Van Bellen & Greed and Spicey Ghost. Besides releasing new stuff, MdK (the commonly used abbreviation of Matthew DeKay) is focusing on his live performances with his band or by himself (like this year’s solo debut at LoveParade). He’s a very busy businessman as well – starting a new clothing line called “Trousy”, which stands for Trippy, Trancey, Tribal, Housey music, in collaboration with suitesixtynine (inevitable association with the latest efforts of his fellow compatriot Tiesto)…
