New faces are an inherent part of every music scence. Sometimes we deal with a one hit delight and sometimes it’s an artist who takes over our hearts for many years. To rate a youngster among one of these groups, you have to wait a while and see whether he stood the test of time. However, if someone astonishes constantly over a short period of time you can additionally tag him with a word ‘hope’. A young Canadian, Greg Benz, is definitely an artist who deserves that tag. As a matter of fact he’s played for over 8 years now, nevertheless 1999 is the date when he started his first residency at DV8 club in London. In early 2000 he joined the RISE! family, a predominant production company in south-western Ontario as the resident DJ for their clubs and special events. Besides, Benz has managed to visit a great deal of North America’s clubs (Sona, Platinum, Utopia, Shadow, Lush, Fever, Electra, Palladium, Palace, Underground) and perform alongside arists such as Max Graham, Richie Hawtin, Chris Fortier, Dave Ralph and Mistress Barbara to name just a few. In april 2003 Greg’s mix was broadcasted on John Digweed’s Kiss 100 show, which happened to be a flywheel of his career. Why? Because out of nowhere came a man, who played 60 minutes of breathtaking music. As you can easily imagine, Kiss 100 was just a beginning. The 2 hour mix for Max Graham’s show on Proton Radio has also found its place in many of web listeners’ golden collections. However being a good DJ on today’s dance scence is usually not enough. You have to produce as well. And owing to the collaboration between Greg and his friend Marco Di Carlo many people’s ears are directed towards Canada. Benz & MD’s vision on progressive and breaks captivated artists like Satoshie Tomiie, Jerry Bonham, Matthew Dekay, Mick Burns, Shiloh, Starkid, Subsky and Fred Numf. Thanks to an amazing demo material Greg and Marco were proclaimed by many ‘a breath of freshness’ and stressed their presence in the end of 2003. Remixes of Subsky’s “Albino” and Flash Brothers “Release Time”, as well as original productions such as “Snowblind” and “Oneric” are one of the tracks that were signed and set to release this year. The last one mentioned is going to be out on Benz and MD’s own label – Aurium Recordings. This is also a name of a new show on Proton Radio that will be hosted by Greg. After a great last year Benz is facing loads of new oportunities and we strongly recommend keeping an eye on his career. Who knows what 2004 will bring... Comments[0]
