Keyboardist, composer and producer Danuel Tate is one of the most innovative musicians in todays house music scene. His take on disco jazz for the dancefloor is truly refreshing , and draws from classic and jazz house sounds. Best known as the keyboard player for Cobblestone jazz, Danuel recently released his first solo effort, Pushcard, on Wagon Repair records. The four-track EP is a perfect example of Danuel's unique and invigourating style – a fusion that blends the sensibility of traditional jazz with the up-tempo, playful beats of dance music. Born and raised on the west coast of Canada, Danuel enjoyed extensive jazz piano training as a child. He began touring the North American jazz circuit in his teens, playing piano, Rhodes and B3 organ. In 1994 he became interested in club music and began performing and producing dance music. Around the same time, Danuel had a serendipitous meeting with Tyger Dhula and Mathew Jonson. The three eventually formed Cobblestone Jazz, and their distinctive techno sound became a hit with the international dance music community. The trio continues to tour extensively, playing music festivals around the globe including the Montreux Jazz Festival for the past two years. With his first solo effort, Danuel reaches a new level in his career. He uses frenzied horns to carry quirky vocoder melodies over a dirty Fender Rhodes and organ. The result is an infectious and swingy journey into modern jazz, with plenty of punch to keep you moving. Danuel currently lives on the west coast of Canada where, in addition to composing and performing, he teaches music theory and electronic music at an inner-city school in Esquimalt BC and plays organ in a local gospel choir.
