Dave Robertson - Profile | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dave's love of music was there from an early age however, he only began to listen to dance music whilst he was attending school in '98. Dave got his first pair of decks for Christmas that year and from then on all his money went on buying records, including any dinner money he was given! He gradually improved as a DJ through practicing in his bedroom. Around a year later he played out for the first time in a bar in Portsmouth-'Mellow Yellow'. "I was really, really nervous but once I started playing I loved it." Dave decided to pursue a career in Music and went to South Downs College to study a BTEC in Music Technology. At this time he was buying records from local shop 'Hands On' and became good friends with the owner Matt Handy (who would later become his boss). Dave's music style developed from Hard House to Hard Trance then to Techno and now to the music he plays Tech House and Funky Techno. Dave's course in Music Technology gave him access to a wide range of equipment and software it was here that he discovered a talent for producing dance music and this took over from his mixing in 1999. Dave decided his perfect choice of career would be a studio engineer and he began to build up a studio above Hands On where he had been working now for a year. As well as the studio Dave's work at the shop enabled him to gain a wide knowledge about the different styles of dance music. After successfully completing the BTEC and getting the award for Outstanding Achievement, Dave stayed on at college to study a HND in Music Production .He has a computer at home and most nights are spent writing dance music. 2002-two years later and Dave’s music is becoming more and more successful with two tracks 'Slang For Funky' and 'Start All Over' being charted in well known magazine Muzik by famous DJ James Zabiela. James has been giving serious support to Dave's music playing stuff on Groovetech Radio and in countries around the world. Dave is signed to James’s new record label Hearing Aid as the first release, both A and B-side with tracks 'Can It Happen' and 'Illuminate-Dave's 4:46 Remix'. At the same time respected DJ's and producers, including Sasha and Tim Lyall are playing Dave s music world-wide. Dave has also remixed one of Dan Goodalls tracks 'Subcinct' which is being supported with plays from James Zabiela and Dan Goodall himself. He has also just been asked by Chris Lake to do a remix. Dave is able to get a good quality of sound into his music, and this is maintained even on big sound systems in clubs such as The End in London where his tracks have been played. Even though the majority of Dave's time and energy is taken up by producing he has still been playing out at venues in and around Portsmouth. He came third in local competition 'Vinyl Meltdown' in summer 2002 and continues to progress as a sound engineer, DJ, and Producer.
