Datassette's musical roots go back to 1985 when aged 5, his father brought home an Acorn Electron computer and demonstrated the wonders of the SOUND command. Being able to write instructions for a machine to make bleepy noises was to be an immediate and lifelong fascination for Datassette and his initial tinkerings on the Electron later progressed onto experiments on the Commodore64 with its legendary SID chip. However, the next big step came around 1993 when he discovered the world of sample tracking on the Amiga600 and began to produce a string of self-professed ‘naff rave tunes’. His addiction to manipulating sounds has grown ever since and by the turn of the millennium he had several hundred tracks under his belt. However the year 2000 was pivotal to Datassette’s musical development for other reasons, as a slight disillusionment towards the stagnating drum n bass scene at the time coupled with seeing Dave Clarke perform one of his legendary electro sets in Liverpool proved the inspiration for him to take music production much more seriously. Since then, Datassette’s career has blossomed and he’s released a number of EPs on various netlabels, been featured on several compilations, released a split EP on Ai and has played live sets and DJ’ed around the UK and Europe.
