Cube

Once Poland was clearly divided into urban centers in which certain styles of electronic music were more popular than others. In Poznan, on the one hand, people liked partying and listening to very minimal techno and on the other hand, choosy disco at best. Cube has been living in Poznan ever since he was born which means that he, in a way, was forced to choose something for himself. No, it wasn’t techno – he held a residency at one of the biggest disco’s in town! As he admits, he didn’t know much about club culture back then, assuming clubbing existed anywhere outside of Warsaw in those days.

But finally he jumped onto the clubbing bandwagon and decided to try his luck with more ambitious music. At the beginning of his new path, Cube went back to his roots, so to speak. Seeing as how he had grown up listening to Depeche Mode, he began digging for music which was similar to DM’s trademark sound but at the same time was more dance floor oriented. That’s how his adventure with deep house, the genre that made him a popular and valued DJ in his hometown, began.

In the years to follow, his musical style quickly evolved and wandered off into the harder genres of electronica. He soon started, very slowly at first, introducing tribal, and later, progressive elements into the sets he played at small clubs and pubs. At the time, he held a residency at a club called ZeZ, where together with Blaze they rocked the dance floor each and every Thursday night till the wee morning hours. Who knows, maybe if it hadn’t been for Cube progressive would have never become popular in Poznan.

In 2002 he became one of the residents of one of the best clubs in Poland, namely Eskulap Club in Poznan. He has also been invited, on numerous occasions, to play at parties outside of Poznan with world renowned DJs and producers. For example, Cube has played with the likes of James Zabiela, Michael Burian, Jeff Bennett, Timo Maas, Anthonny Pappa and Greg Vickers just to name a few. Another important milestone in his DJing career was playing in front of a few thousand people at the Polish edition of Creamfields in 2003.

2004 saw Cube playing gigs all over the country and gaining many new fans along the way. In effect, he was invited to play at three different New Year’s Eve parties! What’s interesting is that he managed to play at all three and each and every one was a stunning success.
In 2005, he tried his hand at hosting radio shows. The product of his efforts was a collaboration on a local radio station called “Afterhours”. Shortly after that, he was offered his own weekly show on Canada’s Club246 radio (www.club246.com).

He’s been trying his hand outside the DJ booth as well. His remix of Futro – “Where Is” won first prize in a remix competition organized by the band. He has also produced a number of other tracks and by the looks of it, he doesn’t plan on confining himself to just spinning records in the future. His musical talent gives us hope for better and brighter days for electronic music in Poland.
