What would the progressive scene in both Americas look like if Chris Fortier was never born? Fortunately we didn’t have to find out and we should only be glad that one of the busiest men hasn’t rested on his laurels yet. Obviously Fortier crossed the Atlantic long time ago and has been one of the biggest DJs in the world for quite a while. It’s all in his profile though so let’s focus on his latest ventures. Fade Special Edition is one of them. The series starts with “Despegue” – a track showing that Chris is great not only behind the decks.
In Spanish the title means takeoff and it’s rather an allusion to the new series as the production hasn’t got anything to do with gradual rising. It’s more a steamroller that crushes with a constant strength from start till end. A simple house beat with an unvaried three note bassline fit this image perfectly. However you can’t name the whole monotonous, ‘cause warm sounding layers of synths and a Sultan alike melody that’s introduced in the middle of the track rivet ones attention very effectively. Supreme hypnotist! The same goes to the Dub version where the aforementioned melody is replaced with a breakdown. However there’s always a ‘but’ - the change is a bit to slight to fill the flip if you asked me.
I just came back from my summer holidays but I wish it happened a week later as it would mean the Polish edition of Nature One wasn’t cancelled and I had the pleasure to listen to Chris Fortier live for the third time in my life. Happily “Despegue” and the lately released “Audio Tour” compilation partially compensate the loss.
