The Innnervisions crew has for quite some time now stood at the forefront of the house music scene. Ame, Henrik Schwarz and Dixon, are all names that are almost instantly recognizable. As are titles such as 'Rej' and 'Where We At', not to mention the excellent 'Body Language Volume 4' mixed by Stefan Berkhana, which caused quite a stir 2 years ago, making its way into a number of end of the year polls. 'Temporary Secretary', Dixon's second effort at a mixed comp in his career, is just as successful.
One can doubt the point of releasing music on physical formats in this day and age, just as one can doubt whether there still is room for compilation CDs in the era of weekly, monthly or bimonthly podcasts filled with new and fresh music. However, in the hands of a good DJ, a compilation is stiilthe perfect opportunity to piece together something that is cohesive, concise, well thought out and, if all goes well, timeless. Dixon has managed to do just that on 'Temporary Secretary'. Regardless of whether he drops recent dancefloor hits ('Setsa', 'The Voice From Planet Love'), Kalabrese's somewhat worn out groove, the opening, less fit for the floor cuts from Fever Ray and Icasola, or Schwarz's instrumental craziness, each and every one of the productions on the disc have one thing in common, namely, depth. And it is the often lacking in dance music nowadays depth that will have you coming back for more, even on the fiftieth listen.
'Temporary Secretary' is a solid compilation that simply can't be compared to ninety eight percent of the podcasts available on the Web, or to most of the compilations released by clubs. It should also appeal to pretty much everyone, with few to little exceptions.
