Interview with Jeff Bennett

Jeff Bennett

Michal is a native Pole who moved to Sweden when he was 6. He killed us on the airport with his “I do speak Polish”. He has over 40 releases and an excellent album honoured in Sound Revolt’s “Best of 2003” summary. His got his own unique style but hasn’t got the deserved publicity. It’s high time we changed that!

Sound Revolt: Tell us. Where do you exactly live now?
Jeff Bennett: South of Sweden. Malmo.

Sound Revolt: But your biography says you moved to Norway.
Jeff Bennett: Didn’t I change that?

Sound Revolt: No you didn’t. James Zabiela was confused as well. And nobody knew you were from Poland. What’s your nationality now?
Jeff Bennett: Polish. Well, at the moment it’s Swedish. (laughs)

Sound Revolt: What does the scene look like there?
Jeff Bennett: There is none. It’s totally dead. The town where I come from has 250 thousand inhabitants and there is one house club that’s doing a party once a month and that’s it. From time to time there’s a one off all night party. So during an average month there are three parties. One goa party, one house party and one techno party.

Sound Revolt: Is that a joke?
Jeff Bennett: No. Everyone goes to Copenhagen, ‘cause there’s shit loads of clubs. There are clubs everywhere. You can get a house club 7 days a week.

Sound Revolt: What about Oslo?
Jeff Bennett: I lived there for six months and there’s a lot going on.

Sound Revolt: Is Monkey Business a good party?
Jeff Bennett: Yeap.

Sound Revolt: Do you know Nils Noa?
Jeff Bennett: Yes. I lived just across the street from him. He’s a really nice guy and a good DJ

Sound Revolt: Word! Do you feel like a Pole? Like a Swede? Or like a... international person (laughs)? Do you visit Poland?
Jeff Bennett: Not that often. I know it’s gonna be more frequent in upcoming years but it’s been very rarely lately so I would say I feel more like a Swede since I’ve been spending my last 22 years there.

Sound Revolt: Why are the visits in Poland going to become more frequent? Have you found a Polish girlfriend or something?
Jeff Bennett: Actually she’s from Thailand.

Sound Revolt: Hmm... We’ve heard about girls from Thailand...
Jeff Bennett: Everything is true. (laughs)

Sound Revolt: Is your music popular in Australia and Argentina?
Jeff Bennett: It seems like it is. It’s kind of hard to know but since I’ve been there I noticed that it is. It’s more popular than I thought.

Sound Revolt: Were the parties successful?
Jeff Bennett: Yes, they were.
