...continuation of the article Sound Revolt: I know. But you spent 8 years together. Is he a professional? Nick Warren: Apart from the joking side - he did a he a great job but then we got to a stage where we needed a professional management.
Sound Revolt: And what does he usually do? Nick Warren: Before that he was always involved in music but with rock and roll bands.
Sound Revolt: That’s what I was asking – was he a professional manager. Nick Warren: No managers are pros. The two things don’t work in the same sentence – a professional manager.
Sound Revolt: (laughs) What about the film score you and Jody were going to do? Nick Warren: Well, it never happened, ‘cause the deal was wrong
Sound Revolt: Is WOW your main occupation? You don’t have your “own” website like nickwarren.com. Nick Warren: No but that’s coming in the next few weeks. I’ve always said I’m a DJ that makes records and that’s how I see myself. The band is as important as DJing but it’s strictly fifty fifty.
Sound Revolt: But why didn’t you have your own website for that long? Nick Warren: Because I was to lazy to sort it out. It didn’t see the point, ‘cause I had the WOW website and my biog was also on the Excession site. My manager told me I need to get my own but... I’m to tight to pay for it really.
Sound Revolt: What’s the thing between you and the guys in Global Underground – you’re doing a 6th album for them. Nick Warren: I was there from the start and I’ve always been a loyal person. They’ve been good to me and vice versa. Lots of artists have done the GU albums and then through the success of those albums they wanted to do it themselves but I’m perfectly happy with GU. And amazingly they asked me to do another one (laughs).
Sound Revolt: And what would you say to the people moaning on the Global Underground message board? Nick Warren: Well... when you look at it. There’s about 6 people moaning on the message board and “Reykjavik” was sold in over 70 000 copies. So who’s right, who’s wrong? It’s a business. There are people on message boards who say “James Zabiela should have a Global Undergound album”. GU aim to sell over 50 000 copies and the truth of the matter is, that if James did a GU album it would sell under that number. It would mean loosing money and their business. And as for message boards. Once there was a guy who reviewed “Reykjavik” saying it was crap and three threads later he said he actually didn’t hear the album yet so...
Sound Revolt: And what do you think about “Involver”? Nick Warren: It’s fantastic! I think it’s the best mix album since “Ibiza”. It’s rare for someone to make a mix album that’s good to listen to and Sasha does that. He’s a very clever man. He doesn’t always appeal to the masses and like other DJs he’s human and he may not play his best on occasions but then his mix albums are always excellent.
