Interview with Hybrid

Hybrid

If we had started Sound Revolt with interviews with our beloved and most important artists, we would have had a chat with Hybrid in the first couple of weeks of our existence. That didn’t happen, and it’s high time we made up for it. The occasion is tremendous, because the Welsh duo is going to have two gigs in Poland this year. They’ve already played a DJ set at Vinyl in Warsaw, and on August 4th they will perform live on the main stage of the Audioriver Festival in Plock.

Sound Revolt: There were gossips of you leaving electronic dance music behind and moving to Hollywood to dedicate fully to film scores. Was it ever true?
Hybrid: Not at all. We’ve been making electronic based music for over a decade and have only recently started writing for film so there’s no danger of us leaving the whole process of releasing records, remixing and producing.

Sound Revolt: How did your collaboration start with the famous composer, Harry Gregson Williams?
Hybrid: We were invited to work on ‘Man On Fire‘ for Harry in January 2004 and developed friendship and a strong working relationship since then. When the opportunity came along to involve him in the writing of our third LP ‘I Choose Noise‘, we jumped at the chance.

Sound Revolt: Was Harry your ticket to the movie society? Was it tough to get there?
Hybrid: I’d like to think it was actually our agent in LA who got us our first independent film. Scoring has many different disciplines and without those sensibilities and knowledge we wouldn’t last long in the film community. Was it tough to get there? Yes it was, it took 12 years of working 7 days a week, but worth every second.
