Oliver Huntemann unplugged

Oliver Huntemann

People usualy need electricians to fix their wires, sockets etc. Polish people needed one particular electrician to lead them against the communist regime. And what do Germans need their electricians for? I know one guy that was very helpful in creating their electronic music scene.

Sound Revolt: Did you know that Lech Walesa – the lider of Polish Solidarity and our ex-president - was also electrician? Sounds like a pretty decent profession.
Oliver Huntemann: (laughs) No I did not know that. If I had noticed before, I would have offered him to open a synthesiser company together with me. Or maybe he would be the DJ now and me the president of Germany.

Sound Revolt: As for other icons – do you have Samantha Fox’s last album? You mention her on your Myspace page...
Oliver Huntemann: I was young and innocent. Samantha had two very strong arguments, which made their music videos quiet bearable (laughs)

Sound Revolt: You’re working closely with Stephan Bodzin in the studio. What does your collaboration look like?
Oliver Huntemann: We’ve been working together for nearly a decade now. Stephan is the producer, the screwer, he nows excactly how to modulate the synths to create the sounds that I or we (depending on the project) have in mind. Stephan often says that I am the supervisor who takes care of the right arrangement of breaks and ideas, and who brings the input for other views and new directions for our music.

Sound Revolt: Stephan also records solo tracks and works with Thomas Schumacher. I have to say that some of the tracks signed by you, Bodzin or Schumacher sound very alike. Is it because Bodzin is responsible for the sound?
Oliver Huntemann: We have worked very close together for quite a while - since we were all still living in Bremen. At that time we created the Bremen Sound. Stephan at that time wasn‘t playing any gigs. Me and Thomas were coming home from our DJ weekends and telling him about the impact and effects of the songs on the dancefloor. I know, due to my long experiences, how sounds have to be to touch and shake the crowd deeply. And then we started to create this typical Bremen Sound of Plantage13.
