Interview with Flash Brothers

...continuation of the article

Sound Revolt: Nermal: Yes, he goes more into leftfield sound right now.
Flash Brothers: Ruven: But still melodic and beautiful.
Ilan: And this is also our musical direction. We want to unite people from house and progressive giving them something in between.

Sound Revolt: Nermal: Maybe you'll sing a track for Border Community?
Flash Brothers: Ilan: And this is his label? Yes, why not. Maybe we'll remix each other. We've been talking about it, but can't tell you more right now. (Laughs).

Sound Revolt: We like secrets, you know (laughs).
Flash Brothers: Everybody does! (laughs).

Sound Revolt: Another track of yours, which is "Nobody Scream"...
Flash Brothers: Ilan: ...Oh, you know it?

Sound Revolt: Yes, I've heard it already.
Flash Brothers: Ilan: Yes, we know the tracks are on the net (laughs). You want to hear the story about it? I think it's your favorite track? (laughs). Graham Gold once brought us to Peach club in London. They like trance over there, so we couldn't go dark.
Ruven: Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Graham Gold, you know...
Ilan: So we did one track especially for this event, because you know... first time in England, the country of club music and so on... So we did it, we went there, we played it and we gave it to Graham Gold. He took it; he liked it and signed it (laughs). So you see we do very different music and we're always open-minded people.
Ruven: When you perform all over the world you see all kinds of people who can influence you for another track.

Sound Revolt: When I heard the track for the first time I thought "Jesus, are they going to win a video clip for MTV with it?"
Flash Brothers: (laughs). Ilan: Listen, every dj wants to be bigger than he is right now and everyone wants his music to reach a wider group of people.
Ruven: But important thing is to do what you can do best and what you like, and not to sell yourself.

Sound Revolt: When producing you use more hardware or computer software?
Flash Brothers: Ruven: Both. We have two studios: one is our home studio, another one in Agnosia label. In second one there's more computers and software but in ours, there's more keyboards which I prefer when composing the themes. Shmuel did "The Chilling Moments" out there in Agnosia. You must know "The Chilling Moments"?

Sound Revolt: Yes, played to death by John Digweed.
Flash Brothers: (laughs) Ilan: Yes, by two men. He produces alone on Agnosia. He worked there with Choopie - our manager and the label owner. He was the first, the pioneer dj in Israel. He pushed electronic music forward there. So they produce together with Shmuel on Agnosia and we, the brothers work in our home studio.

Sound Revolt: Do you mix your tracks performing live, or playing them one by one?
Flash Brothers: Ilan: We play like a band, one by one. We want to give another dimension to the crowd who sees us. We're in an act, not like dj that mixes other people's records. First thing is music and we're playing it. It would sound too much like a dj if we're mixing it.
Ruven: And we want to see reaction from the crowd.
Ilan: And the crowd comes to see something different from a dj.

Sound Revolt: Let's get back to your production. Tell me the story about The Rhythm Unlimited "Reflections" remix... Nermal: You made good track from bad one.
Flash Brothers: Ilan: You've got it? (he points to the tape recorder laughing). This was the first project we've done together with Silver Planet. Dave Conway contacted us and he offered us to do a remix of a new track he signed. The track, if you've heard, it's techy and totally different.
