The album ‘Hunger Forest’ from Monoder, a Finnish techno producer more commonly known as Jussi-Pekka, was released on vinyl last week, though according to our knowledge there will be a digital version available in stores on 1st of July. In principle, records like this should be sufficient motivation to by a turntable, as the charm flowing out of the speakers would be intensified even more by the sight of black record spinning.
The music on Monoder’s album is a true vortex of feelings dominated for the most part by longing and melancholy, which is in fact the “embodiment” of what’s best in Scandinavian electronica. ‘Hunger Forest’ is an explosion of simple, but so intelligent music which is complemented by prosaic sounds that surround us on a daily basis. Continuously looped themes, instead of boring, drag you deeper and deeper into then, and the often dubbed rhythm section makes it taste a bit spicy. It’s an unusual, beautiful album.
