Sideshow returns fresh and fruity from his playful album release of January. Sideshow is the alter ego of Fink - the well-respected work-o-holic producer, musician, remixer and live performer on Ninja Tune. Sideshow’s sound was born of a need to play pure dance music, initially created as the antithesis of the turntablist heavy Ninja culture, but drawing on the experience. It began in 2003 with ‘Sound of Today’ on Simple, embracing a deep broken percussive sound with lashings of melody. In 2004 ‘The Slide’ followed, with a deliciously twisted slice of deep percussive house and Canadian tech lord Mathew Jonson’s first remix. After Fink produced the Will Saul album for Simple and finished his own vocal dub-blues long-player in 2005, Sideshow re-entered the studio and came back with more genre bending business for his & Saul’s newly created Aus Music imprint in 2006 and the fun-filled full-length home listener. For the original of African Cheri we find ourselves asking the question ‘is it disco, is it dub, is it techno, or all of the above?’ Who cares when with Sideshow at the controls the groove is so tight. Starting out all straight and robotic until the disco loops and percussive samples are cut into the mix. The live bass is accompanied by Sideshow’s typical dub flashes before things are taken to the next level with a squelchy electronic variation of the bass line that is, well, quite simply... filthy.

Stefan Goldmann uses the guitars from Sideshow’s original to set the musical tone before building a wonderfully tripped out melody. Layers of found sound, clicks and whirs are delicately woven around Stefan’s resonant drums and lead melody, resulting in a delicate harmony that underpin the mix. Stefan Goldmann is a Berlin native, summer resident of Sofia and occasional inhabitant of hotel rooms across the globe. The ex-editor of an obscure radio program and owner of a 1998-style studio. He is a producer of major records in marginal genres – see Classic, Ovum, Perlon, Innervisions and M_Nus. Record label executive - see Resonance. He is also a graduated phonetician, aspiring lawyer, dog sceptic and gnocchi specialist. A DJ in nice places, especially Panorama Bar in his hometown, who doesn't download music from the net and gives away drink tickets to strangers in clubs.
