John Keys is not a solo project, but a collaboration between two artists, Dandy Jack and Adres Garcia, who usually produce completely different genres of music. Andres is a classically trained professional musician who has been active in his line of work since 1992, and has various artistic endeavors under his belt. Dandy Jack, on the other hand, is undoubtedly one of the true unsung heroes of the international techno scene. Despite the fact that he has a number of releases on such renowned labels as Perlon and Contexterior, he has not gained as much popularity as his fellow countrymen Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano. Which really is a shame because he is one of those artists who is always spot on, regardless of whether he is in the studio or performing live. ‘Who is Afraid of Virginia Tsedong?’ is no exception. The EP consists of three techno tracks which are musically well developed, full of fascinating sounds and very original. ‘Torturing Lines’ sounds like an unpredictable and crazy improv session in the studio coupled with a dose of funk and some sounds straight out of your favourite childhood cartoons. The two remaing tracks are undeniably more club friendly. ‘A Caballo Por Manhattena’ is a 7 minute long energetic mixture of string instrument sounds and heavy bass, and is almost as unpredictable as “Lines” right to the very end. The last, and best, track on this release is ‘Rumbra Triste’- a most exquisite electric rumba with brilliant percussive elements which is, simply put, irresistible. If you're looking for a nontrivial summertime hit, then your search is over. Definitely something for the more adventurous electronic music lovers.
