Release: Shackleton feat. Jackson Del Ray - Next To Nothing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Official Press Release: Crosstown Rebels are very excited to announce the release of their 40th single - and to celebrate this milestone, they deliver 'Next to Nothing' from the amazing Shackleton - undoubtedly one of the most talented artists to emerge from the UK in 2007. Having already caught the attention of many Shackleton has become in a very short period of time, the toast of the UK underground scene and beyond. His work on his own Skull Disco label, particularly ‘Hamas Rule’ and ‘Blood on my Hands’ has become anthems across many genres. When he offered the Rebels his first vocal collaboration, the label knew they had something very special. ‘Next to Nothin’g is a cover version and of Savage Republic’s original and features the vocals of Jackson Del Ray - ex lead singer of Savage Republic, the legendary cult LA industrial band from 80's. As one of Shackleton's main influences, he decided to get in contact with the former lead singer via MySpace and he agreed. After sending Jackson the backing tracks, he laid down the vocals & sent it back to mix. With such a special release, we decided to make this a special record for the UNICEF charity to highlight the plight of children around the world. ‘Next To Nothing’ is another of Shackleton classic bleak sound-scapes, Middle Eastern percussion with a low buzzing bass give this track his typical ominous feeling of impending doom,Jackson’s vocals cut through, painting the full picture on Shackleton's canvas. This is a post-modern crossover at many points where influences from dub, techno and industrial merge together to create devastating listening. Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts might be a new name for some, but after causing a stir last summer with his mini after-hours anthem "Ndank Ndank" on Canada’s Mutek label. Guillaume is defiantly one of the rising stars of a scene that produced Akufen, Mike Shannon and The Mole. Currently touring under his Chic Miniature guise with Ernesto Ferreyra at clubs & festivals such as Fabric, Panorama Bar & Mutek this summer. This remix is a peak time tribal monster, turning the track on its head and bringing the middle eastern percussion is more frantic and forward, the vocals are diced and warped to perfection, it's not for the faint hearted. Exercise One from Mobilee step up to strip it back to their minimal funk in their inimitable way, giving the track a super tight shuffle with that percussion riding along side a deep acid pulse.
