Official press release Digging ribbons from remote hillsides, or panning silt in frozen mountain streams, Persona Records occasionally comes up with a sack full of riches. In this case, we are happy to have discovered the music of Christian Dittmann, from Santiago, Chile. In his bio he discusses his influences from the sounds of the wilderness, which must be why his music sounds so organic and flowing. These tracks are really mysterious, and we really need new words to describe their effect. Out go such banalities as "stormer," "peak hour," or even "afterparty." Instead, we have to talk about sublety, shading, and background atmospheres. Yeah, there's a steady kick, yeah there's a hihat, and even a bassline. But somehow we listen through them because there's magic happening at the periphery which sometimes intrudes into the foreground. For this writer, it's a headphone record because most of the subtleties are going to be lost on all but the best sound systems. But even if I can't really say that DJ's who love music are going to play this record on dancefloors, I know they're going to buy it for their personal collection, and play it for friends every chance they get. I can hear it as the background for parties of mischievous indulgence where new ideas are formed out of closed-eye imagery and inspiration. Comments[0]
