By official press release.
Following the critical success of this year’s epic LP ‘Memories From A Fading Room’, Mark Barrott’s Future Loop Foundation releases a third accompanying EP, pitting the finest of contemporary British music against his own creations. This time around he has enrolled the varied perspectives of Big Chill founder Pete Lawrence, the folktronica Tunng, effervescent Mercury music award nominees Go Team! and beatster Jon Kennedy.
Pete Lawrence’s Chilled By Nature Pastoral Mix of ‘Sunshine Philosophy’ paints a colourful English summer morning, with distant church bells illuminating the interplay between lush plucked guitar and a rolling piano melody.
Tunng’s haunting take of “On The Village Radar” features an intimate interview between grandson and grandmother, her reflections dramatised by blissful sine tones, tape crackle and stuttered reverse samples. Tunng’s interpretation jogs and rewinds the tape much in the same way Mark’s grandmother’s memory was jogged, driven by emotion and comforted by harmony.
The Go! Team use counterpoint chimed melody in abundance for their remix of 'This Is Where We Live’. Brimming with harmony and fattened by live drums and guitar, their trademark positivity adds even more sugar to the Future Loop Foundation’s chilled English lemonade.
Jon Kennedy’s distinctly British trip hop vibe on ‘Experimentation Begins At Home’ brings rasping drums high into the mix, with a descending bass drop, lazy slide guitar and wandering organ. In adding late evening BBC samples to his mix, he reveals his own memories of those sorely missed six week holidays.
