The multi-functional Donnacha Costello has never been one to simply swim with the tide and this new bi-functional release is proof of that. Releasing records since 1996, Donnacha caught the attention of the international techno community with his ‘Color Series’ in 2004, a project involving the live recording of ten records using analog gear, and without a computer in sight. The two tracks presented here are essentially different arrangements of the same material, one for situations which require slightly faster development and one for situations in which it is possible, perhaps even preferable, to stretch things out a little. At the centre of both versions of ‘Black Bag Job’ lies a hypnotic, deep, rolling synth pattern functioning as both bass line and hook. The percussion wraps itself perfectly around this figure, complemented in varying amounts by warm analogue strings and Costello’s trademark digital edits. Comments[0]
