Stuart Li aka Basic Soul Unit was born in Hong Kong and raised in Toronto, Canada, where he has been Djing and producing records since the late nineties. To date he has released music on Left Of The Dial (Canada) and Versatile Records (France) and had a track included on a compilation by Compost Records (Germany). This is his Mule debut.
Swinging from lush and soulful Detroit inspired numbers to modern jacking beats, Basic Soul Unit ‘s deep and hypnotic style is well described as a ‘classic techno sound’.
None more so than opener “Dancing In My Mind’, a beautiful mid-tempo house track, defined by a pulsing piano and light string breeze.
Title track ‘Tunnels’ adopts a more classic electro sound, with subtly building clicked percussion, and a bouncy and effervescent bass line, introducing a killer synth hook to take home with you.
On the B side, Berlin duo Sebo k & Metro reinvent ‘Tunnels’ as an enticing deep house track, subtly progressing with a throbbed bass line and ethereal synth pattern. Perfect for any floor.
