Under the guise of Un:Plug hide two brothers: Paul and Mark Plug. Two is in any case a number that marks the whole new EQ Grey release as it’s the second “Time Unlimited” (the original came out in 2002) and the two new versions were made by duos.

After hearing the first tones of side A I instantly began a fast memory search looking for the album that included this remix. It didn’t take long as it was one of my beloved sets – the broken part of Phil K’s “Balance 04”. This calm and very dreamy tune containing vocals of a famous Rasta – Mutabaruka – opens that tremendous mix. A very characteristic Jamaican reciter fits perfectly with rhythmic synths and multitude of sound bursts flying around. Those appearing in the second part of the track sound just like taken from the “Rambo” movie.

In confrontation with the great piece of work by Lewis Hopkin and Joe Hague (Ortus) the flip turns out a bit pale. DJ Garth and Markie Mark surprise when it comes to the sound but I’m having problems with finding the punchline. Twisting the percussion and interesting vocals can’t brake through a monotonous bassline, which after three minutes simply bore to death. Too bad.

I have to admit that I have never heard the original of “Time Unlimited” but the Ortus’ great remix is utterly enough.
