Many progressive fans might not know Andrew Weatherall, however I wouldn’t confess to it in public. A while ago I checked one of his mixes at my friend’s instigation but it wasn’t my thing at that time. Same goes to few instalments of the Fabric series, that I’ve been trying out during the last two years. It’s high time I revised my view as I have just been blown away by the two aforementioned companies! The 19th episode is fascinating from start to finish. The first two freak songs followed by a phenomenal “M/S Langåra” is a quarter of music you can’t resist. The eighties, Michael Jackson, new romantic, kitschy synths and vocals – everything perfectly taken into the 21st century. Then the time comes for some DJ T sounds and a sweet vocal on a acid background in the form of a wonderful “Don’t Hide It”. Andrew skilfully leads us by the hand showing the best of what electro, acid house and tech house have to offer. It would really be much easier for me to write what doesn’t make my day on this album as it’s only the Hate Mix of the well-known “That Kid”. The rest is pure gold! Only with such words you can describe the ominous “Second Skin” or “Timing, Forget The Timing”. But that’s not all! You want guitars? Here you are. With “Bloody Hell” and Weatherall’s and Tenniswood’s cover of “Dexter” you get another musical face of this incredible compilation. Last month I have spent listening to the bands like Kasabian, The Killers and A Perfect Circle trying to get some rest from the often monotonous and derivative progressive. Weatherall’s album is a fresh breeze for me, which pushes me to a deeper exploration of new musical lands. Finally! Comments[0]
