ZGR - Zero Hours

Producing tracks such as „Connected” or „Eternity” Ozgur Can aka ZGR strengthens us in the conviction that this kind of sound can be defined as “Canesque”. Today his youngest child falls into the hands of me. And what did that young Turkish-Swede give a birth to?

ZGR delivered quite a unique composition. Even though there’s an enormous power hiding inside the “Original Mix” still it would be chancy to play it in the club just like that. It’s because that energy contained is so unpredictable and so hard to control. As we talk about emotions involved, “Zero Hours” is like a time bomb – you can never tell how and when it’s going to blow. Indeed, that gloomy, trancey rhythm trapped in a snare of wistful synth mantras – instead of erupting and exploding – keeps imploding, causing real devastation from the very inside! Being somewhat homogeneous but still undoubtedly complex and diverse “Original Mix” is not a kind of tune that will provide you with dizzy turnabouts. But definitely it will make you dizzy after all.

So, we’ve been through with that sombre feast. Now, Perry O’Neil. Can that young upcoming talent from Holland furnish us with a balm on our wounded souls? Well, to some extent. Even though his version is as well a bit dark through that dignified bass line it’s been adorned with that “factious” synths and catchy melody themes skillfully layered over fairly mesmeric but still heartening beat. Talking about explosion? This should do… Nice but nothing more.

Another, fifth in turn release from Segment Records proves that “staying on the forefront of music evolution” is not only Matt Black’s idle promise. The label is doing better and better. Its fifth release gets today a straight A. Will be the sixth scored A+? Well, Mr. Black, what do you say?
