It’s been over a month since “Best Boyfriend” was released, which together with the “promo period” makes it quite an oldie. Who cares! The latest Jukebox In The Sky is a great counterweight for the derivative mediocrity that’s flooding the scene 24/7.

On the other hand, you could accuse Slacker of copying, ‘cause the vocal and samples were stolen from a p-funk record. But this kind of crime makes him rather a Robin Hood than a villain. Perfectly built rhythm and electric, vivid synths together with a over-the-phone vocal make a dancefloor, genre-crossing bomb. And let’s not forget about the sounds of jungle!

It’s not the end of side A but I’ll stay with dance music and move on to the flip, where The Scumfrog’s Dubfriend awaits. Dark, proggy with a pinch of drums. Solid work and a nice change from the original.

But how nice change it could be one will know after hearing the downtempo mixes which are also included on this vinyl. Steiger and Slacker made their “Best Boyfriends” perfect tunes for chilling and falling in love. “Hymn To Her” is my favourite piece of this excellent whole.

In making music I value innovation. In remixing I like not sticking to the original too much. And when I get a vinyl with additional, beautiful downtempo tracks I am more than happy. It seems that “Best Boyfriend” fully matches my criteria.

Track List

  • Slacker'S First Kiss
  • Steiger Ost Mix
  • The Scumfrog'S Dubfriend
  • Slacker'S Hymn To Her
