C-Jay’s here, on Sound Revolt, not for the first time. In November last year he started a label, only to release his own productions. Thereby he debuted with EP called “Deepwater/ Second Session” and it’s a quite hard thing to have a better start. Does he keep up the good form? “Slag!” is one of those tracks not forcing anything to a listener. It’s constructed in a way, that one could easily miss it or might as well fell into up to neck. The main theme, with it’s melancholic mood calls up some pictures from the suburbs of sadness and longing. Is this a dance track in that case? Undoubtedly it is! Quite solid beat slightly changing its colour, forces in the background the proper tempo. Jamy’s remix, at least in its first part, puts on a coat of more techy, minimal and dark sound. It’s a very interesting combination of Moshic-like percussion with heavy and trancey slides of effects. A connection of the Dutch school (he’s done releases for Black Hole and ID&T) and fascination of Eastern mood. Just a more energetic supplement to the original. C-Jay is not a young artist, nonetheless his fascination about making music is much higher than one could expect. Such healthy excitement in combination with mature technique forms a recipe to make successful productions. I can only wait for next ones.
