Robin Fitter and Jeroen Wunderlich are said to have met for the first time in a kindergarten at the age of 3. Fourteen years later, as they were 17 they got interested in house music. In 1998 they bought their first producer’s equipment and begun doing their own music. In 2000 the very first track by Fitalic came to the light. Five years after that, “E Motion” falls into the hands of mine. This is another production by the Dutch duo and the first position in Sumsonic’s sister label catalogue.
Every moment I am listening to the “Original Mix” I just can’t help the feeling that I’m standing in the middle of some kind of empty, unfurnished room. This is because those progressive piece of percussion (otherwise decent) plus dreamy synths and deep space effects bear in fact no depth within. The ostensible multitude of sounds seems to be just bare walls echo-effect. I can’t find any emotion in that. Unfortunately, the two Dutch guys didn’t show off much this time.
The one who did show off on the other hand is Luke Chable. Remixing the original track, this Australian-based artist managed to add the parts missing: a real background and another, deeper dimension. Chable slowed down the whole mix and adjoined nice leading melodies. He also applied some vague synths and mysterious noises that have been his trademark for quite a while
To make a long story short: „E Motion” is a chunky and substantial piece of progressive music. It’s worth buying the vinyl at least, but not only, with a view to Chable’s mix. And what would it be if Robin and Jeroen had come across Luke in that kindergarten?
