Recently shown up the second release from a club alternative Global Underground series “Afterhours”. Just from the name one can easily fin out that we’ll deal more with music for resting, not for dancing here. Is it really like that? I guess not, as the album in its moments puts you back on your feet. Let me notice that on both CDs you’ll find a true mine of music. Good music and, what’s even more important, music completely exceptional and unique. From the first record I’m calling amazing, melodic compositions from 7 Hurtz (both!) and slightly Led Zeppelin-like Roxy Music. For a dessert melancholic, again superb Tricky and heavenly remixed Trafik. The second CD appears to be a bit more dubby, at least such accents influenced many tracks on it. At first I paid attention, not because of the title, to a “Push Push” remix, which calls in mind an imaginary Celtic bard singing. From over a dozen of mostly 2-3 minutes long tracks also singles out Visage in a heavily cut remix from Trafik, and Closer Music remixed by Ewan Pearson. The album is closed by a slightly movie-like “Alice” followed by deeply in the Depeche Mode mood Subside. Would you discover those tracks without “Afetrhours”? I wouldn’t, because it’s so hard indeed to step back from all the tumult and stay quiet for a while. With this record it’s much easier now. Try it yourself.
