It’s difficult to say what really influences the breakbeat scene these days, apart from Friday nights at Fabric and Fabric Live compilations. It’s equally difficult to imagine how would the scene look like without one of its major producers and DJs, the founder of Whole 9 Yards and LOT 49, Mark Pember, better known as Meat Katie. Hence entrusting the next edition of Fabric Live to him was just a matter of time. He opens up on a high note with previously unpublished Lee Coombs’ single “Banned Practise”. It sets the mood of the whole mix, which till the very end will be dominated by huge basslines, hypnotic drums and subtle mixture of funk, tech, deep and at times even acid influences. In the course of oncoming mixes he steadily increases the level of energy. He surprises with ideally thrown in vocal of “Reign” and productions like “Mismoplastico” in Lee Coombs’ remix, “Nu-Tron”, “Out Of It” or “Get Down”. The mix is crowned with phenomenal remix of Atomic Hooligan’s “Shine a Light” by Introspective. For anyone who knows and likes Meat Katie this compilation will not be a disappointment. For someone who missed his previous productions it will be one of the best opportunities to discover him. Meanwhile I look forward to the upcoming singles from Lot 49 and Kingsize.
