British trio Ashtrax (earlier duo) is Ashley Casselle, James Christopher and vocalist Ben Lost, whose presence has left quite a stamp on the European dance scene. Their productions can be found on many important compilations starting from “The Politics of Dancing” and ending on “Afterhours”. Their previous EP was released two years ago. “Freeload” is a kind of track which always makes you happy. Despite from worn out patents for the sound of bassline and the rhythmic, housey accompaniment, the track simply makes you dancing. This fact has been noticed by Danny Howells himself, having “Freeload” included on the latest “Miami” compilation. A very strong item! “Play It Rosa” is nothing new to me, as Casselle presented this track in his Essential Mix yet in January... 2003. This of course doesn’t take any value of it, nevertheless the production is quite average. A slightly broken production for lazy evenings at home. “Something To Get Through” will be treated as a bad joke. The track sounds like a waste from the Roxette own tracks collection, maybe recorded with a spare vocalist who can’t even issue a big full voice. A tragedy on a radio “kiss” scale. If this track announces forthcoming Ashtrax album, they’ll be looking for promotion on MTV. Everybody says about big bang Ashtrax return. But is it fair to call one good track after two years something “big”? If I rated the EP calculating an average note from all the tracks here, this would be maximum 3. I’m not of that kind and I’ll level on the top with “Freeload”, because it’s simply better to have this track in case.
