Mo Shic feat. The Lion - Nothings Wrong

I have to admitt that Moshic managed to make me feel a bit lost and confused lately. I’m his undying fan and I’m always eagerly waiting for his releases but the last tunes from him weren’t as huge as I expected. They were very good but they lacked expression. I’m talking about the outcome of the collaboration with Rui Da Silva and the high expectations that weren’t fulfilled with “Gibberish” and “Deep As The Rivers”. Both of them are sublime and demanding but I expected something bigger to be frank. However I’m urged to mention that “Deep As The Rivers” stole my heart after the first listen. An unusual structure of the composition and the energy squeezed out from minimal basics make this one an awesome tune.

All the fuzz around the giant duo made me forget about Moshic’s forthcoming solo release named “Nothings Wrong”. Well, it’s not exactly solo, because of Leon Rosenberg (aka The Lion), who’s a famous Israeli vocalist and a friend of Moshic. I didn’t really try to get the track but then I understood the size of my oversight. During the two gigs in Poland, the author personally showed everyone what a great track he’d made. It’s the middle of the party in Sopot and suddenly I hear a massive tune I recognize from the night before. I went to check the title out and it I got sure beyond any doubt that Moshic is not over yet!

So what’s so great about this release anyway? The answer lays on the A side with “Everything Wrong” in the “Highway 69 Mix”, which is a dreamy choon and yet a dancefloor monster. Fast, trance beat with a familiarly dulled base drum make you expect something special. The expectations become fulfilled very quickly, when a smooth piano timidly introduces a powerful bass. A simple and warm melody assisted with a tough rythmic section and a hoarse vocal, form a production complete in every way. Even though it’s not a breakthrough tune and it might not become an all time classic, it surely is one of the best things I’ve heard lately.

The B side comes down a peg or two with the “Everything’s Wrong Mix”, which has a different vibe than the first one. This one is an “old-fashioned” Moshic track that won’t surprise you, because you’ve heard everything already. Rough and dark drums plus mysterious samples that whistle behind your hears without any warning – these are one of Moshic’s main charasteristics present in this mix. The Lion’s vocals are also there of course but without the piano’s accompaniment they sound a bit different. They are sad and nostalgic, rather than filled with hope like in the “Highway 69 Mix”. “Everything’s Wrong Mix” doesn’t bring anything fresh and in comparison with the first mix it looks pretty bloodless. However that doesn’t change the fact that the tune is very solid and worth being played.

Actually, even if there was Scooter on the B side of this vinyl, it would still be worth buying because of the outstanding “Highway 69 Mix”. It’s a must have!
