„Balance” is one of the most recognizable label series among the members of so called progressive audience, carried up to the top by James Holden and his amazing “five” compilation, released under the wings of Australian EQ. After a bit less perfect Pappa’s album, the label turns towards one of the biggest players in this business, owner of record labels Fade and FDS, producer, and most of all fantastic DJ, Chris Fortier. Previous compilation from Chris, “Audio Tour”, as well as earlier “Balance” editions, is a melodic item, full of progressive feeling and drive. One quick look at the track listing of the “seven” to realize that the warm days are over. The new reality quickly becomes confirmed by minimal and mechanic sounds coming out of the player. Each next track is more powerful, and joined forces of masterly arranged bass and percussions picture the moments of individual elations. Fortier (40Oz) has decided to edit many of the tracks, and the effort has appeared to be driven in proper direction, as 27 tunes of the first two CDs are enjoyed as a one crushing symphony. 28th one, which is a beautiful and romantic Micah’s remix, is like a scarf given to wipe out sweating forehead. I haven’t yet pointed other titles by purpose, to emphasize, that the strongest point of this compilation is the uniformity of composition, got also due to skillful mixing. This is not a trick that anybody can do, so must be appreciated. Nevertheless, I have to admin that “Sella Door” (somehow I missed that piece last year) together with “Usage”, are my absolute favorites among all tunes of the album. I haven’t got a chance to examine the third CD entirely (the promo contains only first two), but going through the samples one could easily foresee its mood of electro and breaks, which means an easier listening. I have already mentioned many times, that playing almost the same progressive songs with endless breakdowns all around will lead the scene to nowhere. I personally needed a powerful and energetic record different from the others. I’ve been given more than I expected and the gift is going to stay with me for a long time.
