The Greeks have a lot to give to the international scene. This is being shown by compilations like “Across Borders” on Audiotherapy but also by their own ventures like the “Flavours” album. Before I got these CDs I had no idea about the existence of DJ Leoni. It was Andrew K who had releases on Armada, Mo-Do, Pure Substance and sets on Eccentric Beats or Global DJ Broadcast so I expected him to be the main drive. On the contrary! Leonidas Kakaliagkos, the owner of Underground Lessons, a guy who released Andrew K’s first record turned out to be a great DJ. His CD is a warm, melodious and trancey progressive at its best and I didn’t expect anyone could intrigue me with this music once again. We have great records here like “Mar De Oro”, “Labirynth” or “Native 2” but it’s the great selection of tracks and combining them into larger wholes that makes this journey very enjoyable from start to finish. Unfortunately the atmosphere on the mix by Andreas Karampatzakis is a lot more torn apart – you can’t hear a cohesion nor a main thought. The pieces are not as smoothly mixed as on the CD1, because the track selection is not that brilliant. I really get into this mix from “Come Again” but then the fun is ruined by a sluggish “Beyond”. Maybe progressive fans will find this CD more attractive. Nevertheless “Flavours” is a really good release and I hope it’s not the last one from Underground Lessons. DJ Leoni seems to have a really good ear. Comments[0]
