If Bugged Out is a club legend in the UK, Damian Lazarus is still on the first steps of a great career. Mainly due to his extraordinary Crosstown Rebels label and two great “Rebel Futurism” compilations. “Suck My Deck” fits perfectly in this march to the top. To the top of the underground, because Damian evidently avoids cheese, mainstream and fame. His set is a mixture of modern sounds from deep, tech, minimal and acid house to electro and techno – i.e. all this that’s been killing me for the whole year. Not only me of course, because sounds of Trentemoller, Superpitcher and Ricardo Villalobos have had a huge fan base for a long time. But can one be surprised after hearing such outstanding tracks like “One Of Our Submarines” remixed by the last one mentioned? The CD is full of musical gems and only a thought of hearing Lazarus live is exciting, ‘cause it’s easy to imagine how many other monsters in his case await to be unleashed. But for now we are left with “99 & A Half (I:Cube Remix)”, “Into Your Life (Midnight Mike Remix)” and brilliant as usual James Holden with a new track called “The Lump”. Great selection is complemented with flawless and ingenious mixing and the only thing I can pick on is the lack of mettle at the end. Usually I finish my adventure with “Suck My Deck” on “The Lump”. Alternative and dark adventure worth recommending to anyone that is on a constant search of fresh electronic music. Comments[0]
