Matthew Dekay vs Akatishia - Time to Think

I had to approach this review twice – first time, the release just overwhelmed me... Without beating about the bush - Matthew Dekay is a true musical mastermind. Everything that’s released under its name is cracking me up into primary pieces.

It was similar this time. In case of „Time to Think”, we are dealing with a track made by the master himself, but in close collaboration with two of his fellow companions from MdK band - Norman Soares and Frederic Gervais (aka Akatishia).

The release discussed here is composed of two parts - Forward & Rewind mix.
Forward mix – smashing from the very beginning. Such rich spectrum of sounds is seldom found among any other producers. It seems that Dekay’s work as a sound engineer allowed him to perfectly master the skills of his trade.
The song evolves… New instruments and sounds gradually arrive to create an astonishing deepness. Where does this progress leave to? Into a spectacular breakdown which conquers the listener with a haunting tone of a U2-ish guitar. At this point those 6 strings soar through a layer of electronic beats splitting the track into two uneven parts. Great, sophisticated part!

From what you’ve just read it seems that it’s the meridian of Matthew’s potential. No one would believe that he can surprise us with something new at this stage. But as the rewind mix starts to unwind we begin to reconsider. Lively drum beat introduces even more confusion and disarray into our helpless and defenseless mind… Once again we discover the vastness of sounds and the deepness know from the previous version. Personally I don’t like the artificial attempts to bring a male narration in this part, but it’s not so disturbing. Although this mix hasn’t got so many turns of action as the first part, it is certainly - a musical voyage in time and space – type of track. Thanks to new means of expression (like the use of perfectly blended sound of Far East’s sitar) this part obtained a more disquieting and lofty character. If we add a slight touch of breakbeat, we get an explosive mixture.

This is the kind of release that every respected progressive dj should have in its case. I took one point from the rating only because it’s Dekay who can surprise us with even better productions. I’m going to leave the highest note for the future.
