When I first saw this title, I immediately grabbed the press release to check, which producer decided to jump on the acid bandwagon. But it occurred that Acid Mutant is simply Acid Mutant – new faces on the scene. So new that I don’t even know how many faces are there.

But we do know how many tracks there are, so let’s focus on that. A-side is a sneaky, acid tune which isn’t really distinguished from similar productions made wholesale nowadays. Except for one element – unconventional breakdown and build-up that don’t really build the tension but they surely make a fool out of a listener. And when it comes to music I love being a fool.

“OK I Like You” has the element of surprise as well but unlike “Acid Mutant” it’s much more energetic. Loads of things happen here - twisted percussion that concentrates on snare’s excesses in the breakdown and near the end plus forceful bass, strange melody and an acid synthline creatively taking turns at playing the first fiddle. Warm pads and vocal samples add some extra flavour.

The flip is undoubtedly better than the A-side but they both earned to be called mutants. I wonder how such twisted psychos work on a dancefloor.
