“Frontiers” is a new series from Renaissance – a label that’s been really on fire for the last months. The novelty is that the compilation is recorded by two DJs from different countries – artists who are already big but not on the A-list yet.
The first one is Yousef who took care of the CD 1 - a mix I wouldn’t probably even touch a year ago and which I gladly listen to today. Funky, vocal, jazzy, acid and tech house in such a rendition is probably indigestible for a lot of my friends and I’m also a bit surprised while jumping to tracks like “No Future In Your Frontin'” or “Go!”. Those and two tracks co-produced by Yousef plus his remix are undoubtedly the best pieces, which makes me eagerly await the upcoming artist album. However, not the tunes themselves make this compilation so good. Listened separately they are not that strong, which exactly shows the Brit’s DJ talent.
Behrouz talent was nothing new to me as I perfectly knew his dark and hypnotic sound from his productions and the Essential Mix, which I spend my last year’s holiday with. But what distinguishes “Frontiers” from his previous works is that there are no week points in this CD! Maybe except for a bit annoying “La Musica Vs El Dinero”, which anyway soon sinks in the sea of all those great tunes that I won’t give you titles of as it’s almost the whole tracklisting. We have progressive, house, tribal and trance in a mixture that makes me disappear from radars for the whole 75 minutes.
It’s hard to imagine a better start for a new series.
CD 1 - Yousef
CD 2 - Behrouz
