Desyn Masiello – a child of talent and luck. Having closed the year 2004 with a very good compilation for Bedrock, he now welcomes this year’s autumn with 8th edition of the “Balance” series. The house edition (well, maybe slightly lined with electro), but as for this genre it’s utterly unique. Desyn has fortunately has given up an idea to build up mixes that would reflect what he does in the club. “Fortunately”, as clubs, in difference to private nests, have been driven by different rules. This has been pointed out to e.g. to Luke Fair for his too trivial approach to the “Original Series”. At the beginning, CD1 pays attention with its moderate tempo, but already after 3 first tracks you’re asking yourself “what does he think he’s doing?!” Well, Desyn has taken us to a smooth journey, where only the player display reminds you of changing numbers. The artist has compiled and mixed all the pieces excellently, as if laughing in the face of all the critics (including me) who had reproached him for mistakes on “Original Series”. Lets notice how “One for One” vocals perfectly fit “Love Crisis” – this half mash-up is one of the best examples of Desyn’s genius – or even before, how the “Love Sweet Love” bassline completes the ending of track number 2. But a climax for the 1st CD is piece “Our Lips are Sealed”, that at the first listening sank me into my car’s seat for the whole 10 minutes. Chris Lake’s “Piano Tool” ends up the amazing part one. After I had finally decided to get down to the second CD, the same remained in my CD player for over a week, which obviously doesn’t mean at all, that it took my heart straight away. Desyn has used tracks, that aren’t catchy, but after a few listenings may stay in the memory for good. Lets take the juicy bassline driven “Blue”, in which the police siren’s sound has mistaken me at least twice. Or “Love Like Blood” with a beautifully arranged leading theme, or “Dirty Delicious” in its dub version, at which I cannot remain sitting even for 10 seconds. But kept in progressive rock convention “Maraud Your Ears” will be probably pretending to the best production award this year. “Balance 008” is a milestone in Desyn Masiello’s yet still young career. Awaiting another great albums and live gigs, I keep my fingers crossed for his future.
