Until the CD landed in my player, I had absolutely no idea what to expect, because neither the label Equinox, nor the artists’ names on the cover told me anything. That changed instantly after hearing the first sounds of the album, that made me aware that it was time to make some new musical friends.
Equinox is mainly a slow, unusual mixture of independent hip hop and electronica inspired by a vast musical spectrum. I won’t even try to pigeonhole this music as with such outstanding productions like the energetic “Positive Reinforcement” and “Twilight Zone” or dreamy “Raincoatman”, “Poplock Axefits” and “We Will Come Back” out of respect for the artists reviewers should simply give up. Strings, wind instruments, guitar, flute, piano, organ and all sorts of different synths put together over a live sounding percussion give you and incredibly organic feel, which is the biggest merit of this compilation.
Equinox artists live in New York, Philadelphia, Mainz, Munich and Vienna but on the “Sounds Exposure Vol. 1” it’s the musical boundaries that are being crossed, which every ambitious music lover should experience by himself.
