Jon Gurd, a 22-year old Brit, after the very successful “Future” EP released on EQ, has just opened a catalogue of new label called Bass For Breakfast, for which he’s the boss as well.
„Mind Control” is one of those tracks that call up certain Levi’s advertising with a plusher dancing in a car. Trite lead theme, stale recitation in the middle – might be working in a club, but it’s so much derivative...
A reason to write this review was Dave Robertson’s and Jon Gurd’s remix. Not very much left from the original here, one may easily feel similarity though. There’s a new great sample working perfectly in the drums layer, 7th note attacks so characteristic of Robertson and finally a powerful leading theme.
Dub is more or less the same as the original, only without the poem in the middle. Boring anyway.
Worth having for the remix.
