One of the ideas behind issuing singles is the promotion of forthcoming album releases in proper perspective. Although “Systematic” isn’t a masterpiece on “Atlantic Breakers”, the honour of representing the record was conferred upon it. Not surprisingly, cause on the second, energy boosted part of the above mentioned disc it’s actually the most attention-worth tune.
Single version of „Systematic” starts with a more subtle accent then the album one. Adding an expanded ending to it makes the whole track three minutes ‘fatter’ from the original. Frankly speaking the difference caused by such divergence is diametrical. It gives the track a whole new shape, thanks to which we can discover how powerful load of adrenaline the song actually carries. General rule stating that the extent of satisfaction varies from existing circumstances finds a practical confirmation in this case. “Systematic” tastes differently in old-school trance environment than as a stand-alone. A league better is the latter bite.
Musically the song has a slight breakbeat flavour with tender downtempo cuts and clicks appearing here and there. Making it a perfect dancefloor blend.
„Step Lively”, for it’s the title of the next track, turned out to be a major surprise to me. Mighty percussion mixed with a spectacular bass line simply demands a complete submission and obedience imposed upon the rhythm. Pako & Frederik acted wisely deciding to put this piece on a single. The fact that it didn’t fit into “Atlantic Breakers” convention was more a pro than a con in this case. „Step Lively” has a wide open path to make a spectacular dancefloor career.
Releases’ closing track titled „System Error” is a more chaotic and tension-keeping variation of the theme already known from “Systematic”. It’s a sort of musical catharsis: building the anxiety and fear at the beginning, just to leave us uncertain and standing on quicksand in ambiguous position at the end. Purged? That’s a more individual thing.
The kernel of „Atlantic Breakers” is worth its successor. If you haven’t heard Pako & Frederik before, I suggest acquainting with this release in first place. It surely won’t disappoint…
