If someone asked me which labels are pushing the dance music nowadays, Crosstown Rebels would have an undoubtedly very high place on this list. If I were to name a DJ, without hesitation I would say Damian Lazarus – the owner of the company. Loads of great music is being created under the innovator’s wings, which is proved again by the first artist album in the label’s catalogue. Pier Bucci hails from Chile. Started releasing with Argenis Brito as Mambotur and with Argenis and Luciano as Monne Automne. Solo we can find him mainly at Crosstown Rebels, so there is no surprise in him choosing this label for a home for his “Familia”. And what a noble and strong family that is! 10 mixed productions are a trip through minimal beats and warm melodies. Clicks contrasted with subtly arranged synths are nothing new to this kind of music, but rarely we deal with such a cohesion and variety at the same time. On “Familia” we’ll find nostalgic melodies like in “Tita”, dark and mysterious sounds like in “The R-8 Mooger”, dancefloor shakers like “Tower” and “Jesss” and tunes that will rip your head off with their brilliancy, i.e. “L’Nuit” and “Hay Consuelo”. The album loses its pace near the end, therefore there’s “only” a 5/6 note. However it doesn’t change my opinion that Pier Bucci reached artistic heights and will surely do it many a time.
