Y4K is without a doubt one of the best and most know breakbeat series with albums from the likes of Hybrid, Tayo and Phil K. This brand is usually synonymous with good quality, which was confirmed by the latest outing. Australian masters of progressive and nu skool breaks have played an important role on the scene for several years now so I expected something really good. And I wasn’t disappointed, because Jason Catherine, Michael Walburgh and Danny Bonnici put together a very thought over mix kept mainly around the characteristic tousled breaks hailing from the Antipodes. From those twisted productions we’ve got “M.E.H.S.”, “End of Six” plus all the NuBreed tracks and from more “classic” monsters that will tear our speakers apart there’s – sounding like a remix of Yunus’ and Subsky’s “Air Fuzz” – “Digital Divine” and “Still Here” – a piece that satisfied my hunger for a beautiful broken song. The high mark is completed with a new tune by my beloved Tipper. The latest Y4K is an interesting, well built set but it’s a pity NuBreed started to land a little too early and the finish got a bit dull. Comments[0]
