Satoshi Tomiie - 3D

„3D” is a new releasing series from Renaissance label. The series is to give artists already holding a good reputation a chance to present their relationships with music in three dimensions: club, studio and home. Satoshie Tomiie, because of his huge experience in the studio and also the very tight schedule seems to be the great choice for a pioneer.

Compilation “Club” reflects today’s nature of Satoshie’s sets. I must admit that since now I have thought of this artist as of deeper and darker kinds of house DJ. But here he’s served a big dose of very energetic house music with such fashionable these days electric claw. The record convinces that it’s definitely worth attending a party with him behind the decks, means it surely works as designed. Songs like “Somewhere”, “Future” or “Restore” additionally add some artistic value to this piece.

“Studio” is quite a big chapter from the history of house and progressive music. The record opens “The Theme” dated 1994, which portends a retrospective piece and indeed partly it is so. The artist has chosen tracks that are not new, but has adopted most of them in the studio to make them sound contemporary and at the same time to keep their original mood. So it’s time for a moment of recollections at the giants like “Mind Rewind”, “Hungry”, “Mine to Give” or “Love in Traffic”. I wish Satoshi tried to make something from scratch in order to give the listener the full image of his abilities.

I’m sure the third record “Home” will be quite a surprise for all fans of the artist. It turns out that at home he enjoys classics being served by Miles Davis, James Brown or Dexter Wansel. In most cases these are the pieces that have already been rated by passing time. The great selection for music lovers who are open for every kind of music.

I think that’s a good start of the series, though the timelessness of the album has been accomplished by selecting compositions that timeless already are. I mean there’s nothing new Satoshi has uncovered for the listener, unless when the one has not grown up under a gooseberry shrub.
