The Flash Brothers are one of my favorite artists; all the more I’m happy to be the first who reviews their work in Sound Revolt. Maybe the fellows don’t act as true producers here, because the “Fear of a Silver Planet” volume II is a compilation of pieces made by various authors. Generally the idea to commission the brothers to do the album seemed quite controversial to me. Well, the guys are not djs! They are complete artists, who do their craftsmanship with real electronic instruments both in studio and on stage. Whoever saw them live knows, that in principle they don’t mix the tracks, but slightly pass on from one into another. Will their way to make music work in a compilation? Let’s see. You can catch a little dizziness as soon as you read the track listing. No need of an expert here to recognize the Silver Planet classics like Yunus’ “Red Pilot”, Timo Maas’ “Better Make Room” or Main Element’s “Take Me Down” by titles. The album opens with a few seconds long introduction followed by Chimera’s “In Deep” – one of Sasha favorites – which could last two, as well as ten minutes, and I wouldn’t know which part of it I’m currently listening to. This is followed by a completely sick Flash Brothers' new track called "Ways", with its haunting female vocals, which always knock me out a bit. I’m back on the track with a little help of “Reflections” - the remix from which the journey of the Flash Brothers and the label has started. It can only get better as we move on, because James Holden’s killer – “Better Make Room” – is up next. A terribly powerful progressive piece which may be celebrating its second youth now thanks to the album. Under “Indigo Child” alias hides another, this time my Turkish favorite, Yunus Guvenen. His Israeli pals decided to use both sides of his latest EP called “Head First”. The review of that EP can be found on our website, still I need to mention, that “Take a Breath of You” has been supported by Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha and Hybrid! The entire compilation is dominated by the Flash Brothers’ tracks, and each of them represents slightly different musical style. The awesome “The Flight” is here as well – in my opinion the biggest piece the Israeli trio has made so far. To choose the right tracks is not enough though. The “Fear of a Silver Planet II” unfortunately does not have the atmosphere of a dj set. Between the perfect beginning of “In Deep” and still successful ending of “The Call”, the tracks form something more relevant to a vegetable salad than to a chocolate mousse. Too short mixes and unmatched keys simply destroy the music reception. However, I will recommend the album to every mysterious and melodic music lover. Almost every track here has its own history and triggers some memories. I’m sure not only mine. Comments[0]
