Kiki - Boogy Bytes Vol. 01

Not even three weeks managed to pass since a review of a great remix of The Egg’s „Walking Away” was published and Kiki deserved another praise on our site. I can give away the secret at the beginning that the latest compilation from Ellen Allien’s great label is definitely worth checking out.

Joakim Ijäs won my favours a while ago with his singles, remixes and of course a very interesting „Run With Me” album but it is “Boogy Bytes vol. 01” that introduced me to Kiki in the DJ duties. This compilation is woven in a meticulous and captivating way. 16 tracks in 72 minutes may not be an achievement but when you add samples of other 9 productions you see an album on which something is happening all the time. Unfortunately, it also have a big flaw as a great impression and atmosphere created by wonders like “Vergissmeinicht” or “Don't Close Your Eyes” is thwarted by overplayed smash hits i.e. “Gazebo”, “Stoppage Time” and “Rej”. I can’t understand and forgive Joakim ruining an album close to ideal.

Nonetheless fans of new electro, tech house and tech trance cannot go past it indifferently. The same goes to the creator himself.
