Chris Salt - Dub Sonar / Distorted Reality

Those of you, who occasionally take a peek at my chart, should already be familiar with the name Salt. Not without a reason it appears three times on my november Top 10. After James Holden, Chris is another golden child born on Silver Planet, who stole my heart after the first listen of his work.

It happened owing to “Distorted Reality” – a track that knocked me off my feet and prevented me from getting up for the next several days. Imagine that the beat itself is absorbing - built from two layers: four to the floor goes simultaneosly with a strangely broken one. Then we’ve got nice, warm synths and bells, that combined with the main, jewish alike melody, create a stunning whole. Perfect arrangement and thrilling breakdowns make the track breathtaking even after multiple listens. The fact that “Distorted Reality” resembles the sound of Yunus, doesn’t diminish its value.

On the other side of the vinyl we have a breakbeat “Dub Sonar” – a very fresh and enjoyable tune. Melodious variations coexist on several layers and a bass that changes its volume gives the track an intrigueing temper. It is obvious that Chris took piano lessons ‘cause the synths sound like jazz improvisation. Even though “Dub Sonar” is less slamming, it doesn’t mean it’s worse.

One vinyl with such great productions is an every progressive DJ dream. It’s a must have!
